The latest information from RBC is that the goals will be put up at Clayfield within the next couple of days - they have already appeared at various RBC sites and they are working their way around.

The initial pitch marking for the new season which RBC also undertake, should take place during the next week and this will include the marking out the small sided pitch as well as the three main full sided pitches.

Friendlies

If you are planning friendlies please ensure that Peter Phillips receives the information on the date and time - these details can then be put on the blog and counted as a booking.  Please check the blog to make sure that you will not clash with another group - this is particularly important for the small sided pitch and for the use of the Samba goals.

View Article  Summer Training at Clayfield

Please Keep Out of the Goalmouths!

Please note that the goalmouth areas of the 3 full size pitches are NOT to be used for any Club activity during the summer.  The grass needs time to recover and if we continue to use these areas, it will have no chance of being ready for the new season.

There is enough room at Clayfield for training games/friendly matches without using the goalmouth areas.  The goal posts are taken down at the end of the season deliberately to discourage play in these areas while the ground is treated and the grass is allowed to recover.

View Article  Project ZAMBIA

Project Zambia a new club initiative to help children in one of the poorest areas of Africa.

Rob Wytchard has been in contact with a school in Zambia that have very little or no sports equipment.

Rob’s idea is to collect sports kit that our children have grown out of, such as football shirts, boots, socks, trainers, track suits etc (these don’t have to be Caversham items they can be any colour you like) and send them to the school.

Rob will arrange to set up collection points where these items can be deposited, this will take time but he is quite happy at the moment to collect and sort these donations, so please don’t throw anything away.

We have around 400 children playing football so I’m sure with a bit of effort we can help these children.

The long term aim is to establish a relationship with underprivileged children on an annual basis

This will lead to an opportunity for coaches and volunteers to visit Zambia and help with pitch building, teaching, coaching etc.

The response from the Club Executive was very positive and encouraging, so Rob will start the collections now!

Rob’s contact details are Tel: 07831833689 or by e-mail rwytchard@mapledurham.co.uk

View Article  Use of Clayfield Equipment

At the weekend there was some confusion over the availability of equipment - in particular Samba goals - at Clayfield.

In order to avoid any such difficulties in future please make sure that your fixtures - especially any friendlies involving other clubs - where you are intending to use the small sided goals, are posted on the blog.  Just let Peter Phillips have the information and then it can be posted - the equipment can then be considered to be reserved.

At the moment there are 3 complete Samba goals in the lock up.  Another one will be transferred from Highdown to Clayfield.  They are there to be used but if they are 'booked' then there are sets of poles etc which can be used as an alternative to form temporary goals.

Please also make every effort to keep the Samba sets complete and separate from each other - it is very frustrating to build a goal only to find that there is a piece missing because the last person to use it didn't pack it away carefully!

Any spare SCML result cards???

A number of managers are now out of SCML report cards and all that I had have been distributed.  If you have any spare please don't sit on them - they will be no good for next season - hand them back to any Exec member or give them to any manager who needs them.

It's either that or improvising with the photocopier - the form is in the SCML Directory.

takes place this Sunday 16 March

at Clayfield Copse.

There are two start times 12.00 and 14.00

While the event is officially 'sold out' with 300 official Sport Relief runners booked in, we will find room for all Club players, coaches and parents to join in.  Entrants can run 1, 3 or even 6 Miles.

So please come along and support the event of Sunday!!!!

And if you don't feel like running there are lots of jobs to be done to make the day a success so if you can spare a couple of hours we look forward to seeing you!

View Article  SCML Meeting - Tuesday 3 March

Main points to note from the meeting;

1.  All SCML trophies should now be back with the League.  CAFC is holding several.  These must be returned urgently or more fines will follow and we should not be wasting the Club's money in this way.

2.  SCML Cup Finals will be played on 20th April.  The U16 Finals will be on 27 April and U17 on 13 May.  There will be no extra time in any of the Cup Finals this year.  Matches will be decided on penalties straight after full time if necessary.

3. Fixtures are piling up - none will be scheduled for Easter Sunday but you can play if you want to.  The holiday period in April will cover two Sundays and if holiday postponements are requested this will require the normal 7 day notice.  This also applies to any midweek fixtures that may now be arranged.

4.Forms will be out at the next meeting for registering teams and players for the 2008/9 season.

View Article  Sports Relief Mile Update

SPORT RELIEF MILE  - Update

  1. Advertising – as I’m sure you can’t have failed to notice the BBC promotional push on Sport Relief and ‘The Mile’ is now on!  Sport Relief have also delivered loads of leaflets and a small number of posters which should by now, be visible in a number of shop windows in Caversham.
  2. The BBC website has direct links to Sport Relief and if you put your postcode in up will come the ‘Caversham AFC Mile’.  We are the only mile event in Reading and the immediate surrounding area – the next one is in Henley.
  3. The registration for the event takes place through the Sport Relief Website so we will have little idea of how many people will be taking part until just before the event.  Sport Relief are however, planning on the ‘local miles’ each having 150-250 people taking part.
  4. Caversham Health and Fitness Club (Reflex as was) have agreed to organise the warm ups for participants and are also suggesting that some of their staff do some sports massages for runners when they have finished.
  5. There will be a large (‘pallet sized) delivery of event equipment in the week before the mile.  This should include start and finish gates, signage etc. etc.
  6. Participants can sign up for 1, 3 or 6 Miles and so the easiest way of coping with this is for the Club to provide a circular 1 Mile course for people to go around as many times as they choose.
  7. The Course still needs to be planned and measured (roughly).
  8. On the day the changing rooms will be open and Caversham Marquee tent will need to be set up.
  9. We will offer a barbeque for participants – this needs to be organised and staffed.
  10. VOLUNTEERS are needed for setting up - marshalling – the barbeque – putting up the tent etc. and general organisation on the day.
  11. We will also need a PA system – does anyone have access to one?

There was unanimous agreement at the Manager and Coaches Meeting that the Club should support Sport Relief as a wider community activity.  However it will only work if there are sufficient active volunteers on the day.  Please keep the day free and get involved!
